- About Us
Welcome to our information page for new families applying for their little one’s Reception place for September 2021!
We are delighted that you looking to join the West Alvington family and we would like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome you to the Learning Academy Partnership. We look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure that your child has the best possible start to their primary education.
We believe that choosing your child’s first school is a hugely important decision, setting them on the path of a wonderful learning journey and onto future success. At West Alvington C of E Academy, we do everything we can to ensure our families are fully informed about the journey ahead; the curriculum that will be taught, the approach to teaching in the Foundation Stage, as well as the practical arrangements of starting school.
Normally at this point in the year, we invite new parents into our academy to look around our Reception class, the rest of the academy and meet our team during the school day in order for you and your child to get a ‘feel’ for life here at West Alvington in preparation for September 2021. However given the current COVID-19 restrictions, we have tweaked how we are able to do this to ensure you are able to get to know us and the school, whilst also safeguarding the health and wellbeing of your family and our school community.
In order to comply with current Government guidance, whilst also supporting you and your family as you make this big decision, we are pleased to announce that we can offer individual family tours of Hazel Class, our Reception class, and give you the opportunity to meet Miss Holloway, our Reception teacher, as well as Miss Coombe (Head of Academy) and other members of the team here at West Alvington C of E Academy.
Please also visit other pages on our website, our Twitter page @WAlvingtonLAP or our new Facebook page to find out more about our fabulous academy; we work extremely hard to keep everything up to date, sharing all of the fabulous learning that takes place each term.
Remember, if you have any questions or queries, no matter how small they may seem, please feel free to contact the academy office on 01548 852002 and ask to speak to Miss Holloway or Miss Coombe (Head of Academy) and they will be able to help.
Starting school can be a big transition for many children (and parents too). Reading and sharing stories with your child can make such a massive difference.
Here are just some of the many starting school stories you could share together:
Remember, if you do not have copies of the books, then it is really easy to find ‘read alouds’ on YouTube.
